Connecting with an SFTP Client

Any SFTP client works with AtomicHost — there’s nothing proprietary about the connection, it’s standard SFTP. If you don’t already have a favorite:

Tip
On Windows, we recommend WinSCP. It’s free, lightweight, and its two-pane layout (your PC on one side, your server on the other) makes drag-and-drop uploads simple. FileZilla is the other extremely common choice, and it’s genuinely cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) if WinSCP’s Windows-only reach doesn’t work for you. Both are covered below — pick whichever, your server doesn’t care which client you connect with.

Either way, you’ll need your connection details first — see SFTP Access for where to find your host, port, username, and password in the panel. Keep that tab open; you’ll be copying from it.

WinSCP

  1. Download and install WinSCP from winscp.net — the installer defaults are fine.
  2. On first launch (or New Site from the start screen), fill in the New Site fields:
    • File protocol: SFTP
    • Host name: your SFTP hostname, without the sftp:// prefix
    • Port number: your SFTP port
    • User name: your SFTP username
    • Password: your panel password
  3. Click Save if you want to keep these details for next time, then Login.
  4. The first connection shows a security warning with the server’s host key fingerprint — this is normal for any SFTP/SSH connection the first time, not an AtomicHost-specific issue. Click Yes to trust it and continue.
  5. You’ll land in WinSCP’s two-pane view — your local PC on the left, your server’s files on the right. Drag files between them to upload or download, or right-click for the same rename/delete/permissions options the panel’s file manager has.
Tip
Reopening a saved site later is just Session → [your saved site] → Login — you won’t need to re-type any of this.

FileZilla

  1. Download FileZilla Client (not FileZilla Server — that’s a different product) from filezilla-project.org.
  2. For a one-off connection, use the Quickconnect bar at the top of the main window: enter Host, Username, Password, and Port, then click Quickconnect.
  3. To save the connection for reuse instead, go to File → Site Manager (or Ctrl+S) → New Site, and fill in:
    • Protocol: SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol
    • Host: your SFTP hostname
    • Port: your SFTP port
    • Logon Type: Normal
    • User / Password: your SFTP username and panel password
    • Click Connect
  4. Like WinSCP, the first connection asks you to verify the server’s host key — accept it to continue.
  5. FileZilla shows your local machine on the left and your server on the right. Drag and drop between them, or use the queue at the bottom to track transfers — useful for seeing progress on a large world or modpack upload.

If the Connection Fails

  • Timed out / connection refused — double-check the host and port against the panel’s Settings tab (see SFTP Access); a stray character or the wrong port is the most common cause.
  • Authentication failed — your SFTP password is your panel password. If you’ve changed your panel password recently, use the new one.
  • “Server unexpectedly closed the connection” repeatedly on upload — usually a very large single file or an unstable network rather than a credentials problem; try again or switch networks before assuming something’s misconfigured.
