Granting Operator Permission

Commands like /gamerule, /kill, and /tp need operator permission to run in-game. Here’s how to grant it.

Promoting a Player

bash
op "PlayerName"

Run that from the panel’s Terminal tab (the quotes around the name are required). The player is promoted immediately — no restart needed. To remove it again:

bash
deop "PlayerName"
Note
The player needs to have joined the server at least once before you can op them by name.

Making Every Player an Operator

For a small server where everyone’s trusted, you can skip promoting people individually. Set this in server.properties:

properties
default-player-permission-level=operator

Valid values are visitor, member, and operator. This only affects players joining for the first time — anyone already connected keeps their current level until you op/deop them directly.

Warning
Operator access isn’t limited to gamerules — it also allows /kill, /give, /tp, and every other cheat command. Only set this server-wide for small, trusted groups.

The Easy Way Around All of This

Any command typed directly into the panel’s Terminal tab runs with full operator permissions automatically, regardless of any player’s individual permission level. If you’re the one making the change and don’t need a player to have standing access, this is usually simpler than opping anyone.
