Bedrock Getting Started

AtomicHost supports Bedrock Dedicated Server (BDS) — the official server software from Mojang that supports Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, iOS, Android, and Windows players.

Quick Setup

  1. In the panel, confirm the server type is Bedrock
  2. Go to Startup → set the Bedrock Version variable to latest or a specific version like 1.21.1.0
  3. Start the server — BDS downloads automatically on first run

A few other Startup variables are worth knowing about: Gamemode and Difficulty are dropdowns (rather than free text), Allow Cheats is a toggle, and Max Players is shown read-only here — change it directly in server.properties instead (see below).

server.properties (Bedrock)

properties
server-name=My Cool AtomicHost Server
gamemode=survival
difficulty=normal
allow-cheats=false
max-players=10
online-mode=true
allow-list=false
server-port=19132
view-distance=32
tick-distance=4
level-name=Bedrock level
Note
Bedrock uses port 19132 UDP by default. Make sure this port is allocated in the panel under Network.

Allowlisting Players

To restrict who can join, set allow-list=true in server.properties. From there, the fastest way to manage who’s on it is straight from the console — no file editing needed:

bash
allowlist add PlayerOne
allowlist remove PlayerOne

Both apply immediately, no restart required — you’ll see a confirmation like Added PlayerOne to the allowlist in the log. If the allow-list is on but empty, the server actually warns you about it on startup with the exact syntax to use.

If you’d rather edit the list directly, it’s allowlist.json in the server root:

json
[
  {
    "name": "PlayerOne",
    "xuid": "",
    "ignoresPlayerLimit": false
  }
]

Run allowlist reload in the console to pick up manual file edits without restarting. And if you want the allow-list off entirely rather than just empty, allowlist off does that directly from the console too.

Tip
Running both Java and Bedrock? Use GeyserMC on your Java server to allow Bedrock players to connect to it.
