Backups
AtomicHost includes a built-in backup system. We strongly recommend setting up automatic backups before making any major changes.
Creating a Manual Backup
- Navigate to Backups in the panel sidebar
- Click Create Backup
- Give it a name (optional) — default is a timestamp
- Optionally list files/folders to ignore — supports wildcards and, if left blank, falls back to a
.pteroignorefile in your server root if one exists. Prefix a line with!to negate a rule (un-ignore something a broader pattern would otherwise skip) - Optionally toggle Locked to stop this specific backup from being deleted (by you or by hitting your backup limit) until you unlock it again
- Click Start Backup
Backups run in the background. You’ll see a spinning indicator until it finishes.
Restoring a Backup
- Click the ⋯ menu next to the backup
- Select Restore
- Optionally tick Delete all files before restoring backup if you want a completely clean slate rather than the restore overlaying the backup onto what’s currently there
- Confirm
The server stops for the duration — you won’t be able to control its power state, use the file manager, or create additional backups until the restore finishes.
Scheduled Backups
Rather than remembering to back up manually, add a Create Backup task to a schedule — see Automating Tasks with Schedules for the full walkthrough. A nightly backup at 3 AM, for example, is a Minute/Hour/Day/Month/Weekday cron pattern of 0 3 * * *.
Backup Limits
Each plan includes a maximum number of stored backups — the page shows “X of Y backups have been created” so you can see where you stand. Hitting the limit blocks Create Backup rather than silently deleting your oldest one; free up space by removing a backup you no longer need first (a Locked one won’t count as removable until you unlock it).
